KARACHI – The Sindh government has approved the launch of the second phase of the Pink Scooter Scheme, aimed at supporting women’s safe and independent mobility across the province.
The decision was finalized during a meeting chaired by Sindh Senior Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon on Wednesday in Karachi. Officials reviewed progress on the ongoing program and agreed to expand its reach through the new phase.
The meeting also approved the launch of four new routes under the People’s Bus Service in Khairpur, Shikarpur, and Hyderabad. Authorities said these new routes will help thousands of commuters who rely on local transport for daily travel.
Memon earlier described the Pink Scooter Scheme as a major step toward women’s empowerment. Speaking to the media in September, he noted that the initiative provides safe, affordable, and dignified travel options for women who depend on public transport for education, work, and routine tasks.
He said the scheme would not only save time but also reduce travel costs, offering women greater comfort and security. The Sindh Mass Transit Authority is handling applications and data of eligible women and students.
The minister emphasized that scooters will be distributed based on merit and need. He said the provincial government has designed a transparent and fair mechanism to ensure equal access for all deserving applicants.
Memon encouraged women, especially students and working professionals, to participate in the program. He said the government wants to promote women’s independence and increase their participation in every sector.
