Sindh Government Announces Petrol Relief Package to Support Citizens Amid Rising Fuel Prices

KARACHI โ€“ The Sindh government has unveiled a petrol relief package to ease the financial burden on citizens following a sharp increase in petroleum prices. The announcement was made by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah during a press conference on Friday.

Under the petrol relief package, the Excise and Taxation Department will waive motorcycle ownership transfer fees. Motorcyclists will also receive Rs2,000 in direct financial assistance for each registered motorcycle. Payments will be transferred to eligible ridersโ€™ bank accounts between April 15 and April 20.

Motorcyclists must register through a mobile application developed by the Excise Department. Applicants need to provide their CNIC and IBAN number or bank account details. Motorcycles not registered in the ownerโ€™s name must be transferred within 15 days to qualify for the subsidy. Approximately 6.7 million motorcycles are registered in Sindh.

The relief package also extends support to small farmers cultivating less than 25 acres of land. Eligible farmers will receive Rs1,500 per acre to cover additional expenses, such as threshing. Around 336,000 small farmers are expected to benefit from this initiative.

In addition, transport sector operators will benefit from the petrol relief package. Registered buses will receive Rs100,000 per month, while trucks will get between Rs70,000 and Rs80,000, depending on their size. A separate subsidy of Rs140,000 per month has been announced for passenger buses operating intercity and intracity routes. Bus operators availing the subsidy must not increase fares.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah emphasized that the petrol relief package is a temporary measure, effective for one month, aimed at easing citizensโ€™ financial burden amid rising fuel costs.

Meanwhile, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, condemned the recent petrol price hike, calling it a โ€œpetrol bombโ€ on the public. He announced a nationwide protest movement, urging citizens, particularly the youth, to voice their opposition.
