Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah announced on Tuesday that the BRT Red Line project in Karachi must be completed by June 2026. He made the statement during a Sindh Cabinet session.
The cabinet reviewed and approved costs for several major transport infrastructure projects. The CM emphasized that the BRT Red Line project is a top priority for improving public transport in the city.
Alongside the Red Line, the cabinet enhanced the budget for the 21-kilometer Yellow Line BRT under the Karachi Mobility Project to 620 million dollars. The World Bank will contribute 155 million dollars, while the Sindh government will provide 18 million dollars. The Yellow Line is expected to be completed by December 2028.
The chief minister also instructed officials to immediately start construction of new roads across Karachi to support ongoing transport projects.
In addition to transport initiatives, the Sindh cabinet approved handing over the 36-kilometer Dumlottee to DHA water pipeline project to the Frontier Works Organization (FWO). This move aims to improve water supply in Karachi and surrounding areas.
The cabinet also approved Rs 300 million for acquiring land from PTCL for the Malir Depot, which will support the operational needs of BRT projects, including the BRT Red Line project.
Officials said the Red Line will span several key areas of Karachi, providing fast, reliable, and affordable transportation for thousands of daily commuters. The project is expected to reduce traffic congestion and improve mobility in the city.
The CM stressed that timely completion of the BRT Red Line project is critical to modernizing Karachi’s transport infrastructure and providing citizens with safe, efficient public transit.
Authorities will monitor progress closely to ensure that construction milestones are met and that the project remains on schedule for June 2026 completion.
