Multiple parts of Karachi experienced moderate to heavy rainfall along with thunder on Friday night, offering a much-needed break from the intense heat but also causing widespread power outages throughout the city.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the weather is expected to stay mostly cloudy, with further rain likely over the coming two days.

The late-night showers brought pleasant weather to the city, with scattered rainfall reported in areas including Malir, Airport, Model Colony, Korangi, Nazimabad, Surjani Town, and the Super Highway.
Gulshan-e-Hadeed recorded the highest rainfall, measuring 17 millimetres. Other significant readings included 12mm on Shahra-e-Faisal, 9mm in older parts of the city, 7.8mm in Defence Phase II, 5mm at Jinnah International Airport, and 2mm along University Road.
While this marked the season’s first monsoon rain, it also exposed the city’s vulnerable infrastructure. Many neighborhoods suffered major power breakdowns, with residents reporting prolonged electricity outages that lasted through the night.
K-Electric, the city’s main electricity provider, stated that several areas faced disruptions due to rain-related faults. However, by Thursday morning, the company claimed to have restored power to nearly 90% of affected zones.
The PMD has urged citizens to stay alert during the current rainy period, warning of potential urban flooding in low-lying districts.
