Singapore Airlines has been named the world’s best airline at the 2026 Skytrax World Airline Awards. The award was announced in London on Friday, September 18.

This marks the sixth time Singapore Airlines has received the top airline title. The carrier last won the award in 2023.

Qatar Airways, which held the top position last year, ranked second in the 2026 awards. Cathay Pacific Airways secured third place.

All Nippon Airways finished fourth, while Turkish Airlines completed the top five.

Singapore Airlines also collected several other major awards during the ceremony. It was named the world’s best economy class airline.

The carrier also won the award for the world’s best economy class onboard catering. It was further recognised as the best airline in Asia.

Singapore Airlines also finished second in the world’s best cabin crew category.

Singapore Airlines Group CEO Goh Choon Phong thanked customers for their continued support. He also praised the airline’s employees for maintaining service standards.

He said the award reflected the dedication and professionalism of the airline’s staff. He added that the company remains focused on providing a strong travel experience.

The group’s low-cost subsidiary, Scoot, also secured major recognition at the awards. It was named the world’s best long-haul low-cost airline.

Scoot received the award for the sixth consecutive year. It also ranked second among the world’s best low-cost airlines.

Malaysia’s AirAsia took first place in that category. Spain’s Vueling Airlines ranked third.

Scoot CEO Leslie Thng said the recognition reflected the airline’s focus on comfortable and reliable travel. He added that Scoot would continue improving its services.

The 2026 Skytrax awards were based on a global survey of more than 24.8 million travellers. Participants rated more than 300 airlines between September 2025 and August 2026.

Skytrax introduced the World Airline Awards in 1999. The organisation describes them as the Oscars of the aviation industry.

Skytrax CEO Edward Plaisted congratulated Singapore Airlines Group on its achievements. He highlighted the group’s product and service standards.

The latest recognition comes as the airline group reports record passenger numbers. Singapore Airlines and Scoot carried 42.4 million passengers during the 2025-26 financial year.

That figure represented a 7.7 percent increase from the previous year. The group had carried 39.4 million passengers during that period.

However, the group also faced financial pressure during the first quarter of 2026. It reported a net loss of S$76 million.

Higher fuel costs affected the company’s financial performance during the period. Net fuel costs increased by 78.5 percent amid turmoil in the Middle East.

The group also faced a larger share of losses from Air India. Supply chain problems have created additional challenges for the airline.

Singapore Airlines has delayed the introduction of new first and business class seats. The new seats for Airbus A350 aircraft are now expected in the first quarter of 2027.

The rollout was initially planned for the second quarter of 2026. The delay reflects ongoing supply chain constraints affecting the airline industry.
