KP CM Sohail Afridi Backs Shehbaz Sharif as PM Amid Tensions

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has reaffirmed that Shehbaz Sharif is the Prime Minister of Pakistan, stressing unity in the face of external challenges. He made these remarks during a press conference held in Islamabad on Wednesday.

Speaking alongside Junaid Akbar and Muzzammil Aslam, Sohail Afridi said that the country must stand united against any form of foreign aggression. He emphasized that national unity is essential during times of regional tension and uncertainty.

Responding to a question, Sohail Afridi said he would like to convey to former US President Donald Trump that Shehbaz Sharif is the legitimate prime minister of Pakistan. He also claimed that certain global powers may not wish to see Pakistan progress as a strong nation.

He further stated that no external force should be allowed to influence Pakistan’s internal affairs. According to Sohail Afridi, the country’s sovereignty and stability depend on collective national effort and public support.

During the press conference, the chief minister also spoke about domestic political issues. He said that only the people have the authority to disqualify political leaders. He added that his party remains committed to achieving what he described as “real freedom” through democratic means.

Sohail Afridi also criticized the federal government’s approach toward Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He alleged that the province is being treated unfairly and compared the attitude to that of a “stepmother.” He pointed out that a planned meeting on financial matters, including the National Finance Commission, was cancelled without explanation.

He further claimed that important national decisions are being made without transparency. According to him, such decisions affect the entire country and should involve broader consultation.

Highlighting economic concerns, Sohail Afridi said Pakistan is facing several challenges. He noted that the trade deficit has crossed $20 billion, while agricultural growth is declining. He also mentioned that many young people are leaving the country in search of better opportunities.

He added that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has been excluded from key discussions, particularly those related to the ongoing energy crisis. He said this lack of inclusion weakens coordination between provinces and the federal government.
