Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi criticises Punjab’s approach, claiming he faced disrespect in the province. He said he was treated with respect by the Sindh government.
Speaking at a “Meet the Press” event at the Karachi Press Club, Sohail Afridi criticises Punjab while highlighting the legacy of former Prime Ministers Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in Sindh. He satirically added it remained to be seen whether the current administration would continue that legacy or become “Zardari’s government.”
On federal negotiations, Sohail Afridi criticises representatives of the government, questioning their authority to engage in dialogue. He reiterated PTI founder Imran Khan’s stance that dialogue is necessary but should involve empowered decision-makers. Afridi said he had not contacted anyone regarding talks with the federal administration.
The KP chief minister mentioned that his party has been instructed to prepare for a street movement if needed. “If there is resistance, there will be reconciliation,” he said, emphasizing PTI’s readiness for public action.
Addressing security concerns, Sohail Afridi criticises any approach that sidelines provincial involvement. He reaffirmed his party’s opposition to all militant groups, including the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). He stressed that decisions to tackle terrorism should not be made behind closed doors, and that KP’s elected government must be included in planning.
“Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has a democratic government chosen by the people,” he said. “If terrorism is to be tackled effectively, it is essential to engage with those who represent the province.”
Sohail Afridi’s remarks reflect growing tension between provincial and federal authorities. He highlighted the need for respect, dialogue, and inclusion in security and governance matters.
