The Punjab government has decided to launch the Sohna Punjab Project under the Punjab Development Program after completing Suthra Punjab. The initiative aims to expand development works across the province and enhance infrastructure, public services, and urban facilities.
The Punjab Development Program now covers 52 cities, with projects worth Rs304 billion. Development projects in 51 cities have already been approved, and work in all districts has started at a cost of Rs302 billion. Tenders for 11 cities were approved by January 8, 2026, while projects in other areas have progressed under the program.
Financial evaluations for 17 cities have been completed, and contractors have been mobilised. In addition, 10 more cities have completed evaluations and begun mobilisation. Financial bids for 13 cities are scheduled to open on January 22, 2026.
A key component of the Sohna Punjab Project is a historic sewerage plan, targeting the installation of 5,397 kilometres of sewer lines across the province. The program also includes 181 km of stormwater drainage, construction and renovation of 56 new and 61 existing sewage disposal stations, and wastewater treatment plants with a total capacity of 323 MGD.
Infrastructure development is also a focus. Approximately 6,100 km of roads and streets will be constructed and renovated across districts. A 21 MW solarization initiative will be completed at multiple locations, promoting significant energy savings.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has instructed that all projects, including sewage works in every city, be completed by June 2026 to make Punjab more beautiful and efficient. Provincial and district control rooms will monitor the implementation of the Punjab Development Plan, with the Chief Minister personally overseeing progress and resolving public issues.

Officials said every project under the Sohna Punjab Project will be monitored step by step to ensure timely completion and maximum benefit for the people. The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to modernising Punjab’s infrastructure and improving quality of life for its residents.
