A tragic road accident in Karachi’s Korangi area claimed one life and left two others injured after a speeding dumper crushes motorcyclists near Singer Chowrangi on Thursday. The incident occurred when traffic police had stopped several riders for routine checking, and the heavy vehicle lost control, ramming into them.
According to rescue officials, the dumper crushes one motorcyclist to death on the spot. The deceased was identified as Mohammad Iqrar. Two others sustained serious injuries and were shifted to Jinnah Hospital for medical treatment.
Eyewitnesses said the dumper was moving at high speed before it crushes the group of riders standing beside the road. The driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle, which has since been taken into police custody. Authorities have launched a search operation to arrest the suspect.
Following the crash, angry citizens set the dumper on fire in protest, condemning the negligence that led to the fatal incident. A video of the accident quickly went viral on social media, sparking outrage and prompting calls for stricter traffic control measures.
Traffic Police In-Charge Akmal said that a detailed investigation is underway. “The driver was speeding and hit the motorcyclist from behind,” he confirmed, adding that all aspects of the case are being examined.
Citizens criticized the police for stopping commuters unnecessarily despite the E-Challan system being active. Many argued that such roadside checks increase the risk of accidents and create traffic chaos.
Meanwhile, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) expressed concern over Karachi’s new E-Challan system, alleging that it is being misused to collect fines rather than improve traffic management. The party demanded a fair investigation into police conduct and the enforcement of strict safety regulations for heavy vehicles.
The incident has reignited debate over road safety in Karachi, where reckless driving and poor traffic control continue to endanger lives.
