Spotify has introduced a new feature called “About the Song,” letting users explore the stories behind their favorite tracks. The feature, launched Friday, provides short, swipeable story cards for supported songs, allowing listeners to give a thumbs-up or thumbs-down to each card.
The stories include behind-the-scenes details, inspirations, and interesting facts sourced from third-party content. Spotify said this feature is currently unique to its platform and not available on competitors like Apple Music. Users can access it by scrolling down on the “Now Playing” screen of supported tracks.
“At Spotify, we know a song can stop you in your tracks,” the company said in a blog post. “Fans want to know what inspired it and its meaning. Understanding the craft behind a song deepens the connection to music.”
“About the Song” is available in English for Premium mobile users in the U.S., U.K., Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and Australia. Spotify said it plans to expand support to more regions over time.
