Two children were injured after Stray dogs attacked them inside Karachi University on Wednesday. The incident has raised fresh concerns about the growing number of stray animals on campus and their threat to student safety.
According to initial details, Stray dogs attacked a five-year-old boy near the university clinic. The animals mauled his face, causing serious injuries. In a separate incident, a young girl named Hoorain was bitten on the foot. Both children received medical attention soon after.
The medical officer on duty has formally reported the matter to the university administration. In his letter, he confirmed that the boy suffered facial wounds after being attacked by dogs. He added that Hoorain was also injured by a stray dog, and urged the administration to take urgent action to control the issue on campus.
This is not the first time such an incident has occurred. A few months ago, a first-year Food Science student fell while trying to escape Stray dogs, resulting in head injuries. Students and staff have repeatedly expressed concern over the lack of effective measures to manage the growing dog population around the university.
A separate tragic incident was reported in Basti Mardan, where an 8-year-old boy named Shehbaz was killed by a pack of Stray dogs. The attack happened near his home under Ahmad Hor Lama police station. His body was later found in nearby fields.
Pakistan continues to witness an alarming rise in dog bite cases. According to data from the National Institute of Health (NIH), 7,815 dog bite cases were recorded nationwide just last week. Health officials warn that the increasing number of stray animals poses a serious public safety risk, especially for children.
