K-Electric Appoints Syed Taha As New CEO

K-Electric has announced the appointment of Syed Muhammad Taha, former Managing Director and CEO of Pakistan State Oil (PSO), as its new Chief Executive Officer. The official notice was submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Monday.

Taha is set to formally take charge on April 15, 2026. He will replace interim CEO Adeeb Ahmad, who has been leading the company since Moonis Alvi’s resignation. The Board of Directors approved the appointment, marking a key transition in the utility’s top leadership.

The new head of K-Electric brings extensive experience from his tenure as PSO’s head. Since February 2020, Taha led Pakistan State Oil, overseeing operations, strategy, and corporate governance. His leadership at PSO earned him recognition for managing one of Pakistan’s largest energy companies effectively.

Taha holds an engineering degree and an MBA in Finance from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi. Before serving as PSO’s head, he worked as Executive Director at Oasis Energy. There, he managed the Program Management Office for the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company in Nigeria.

He also previously held the position of Chief Distribution Officer at K-Electric, giving him firsthand experience of the company’s operations and challenges. His professional journey includes roles at Shell Pakistan and Caltex Pakistan (a Chevron company), along with experience in the steel sector. This diverse background strengthens his ability to manage complex operational environments.

Industry analysts say Taha’s appointment brings stability and strategic vision to K-Electric. His experience as PSO’s head is expected to help improve operational efficiency, financial management, and stakeholder relations at the power utility.

Taha’s leadership at PSO demonstrated his capability to navigate a large, investor-owned energy company through challenging times. Now, as K-Electric’s CEO, he faces the task of ensuring reliable electricity supply for Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city, while addressing operational and financial challenges.

The appointment of Syed Muhammad Taha as K-Electric’s new CEO highlights the growing trend of leadership exchange within Pakistan’s energy sector, where experience from PSO and other energy companies is valued highly.
