ISLAMABAD – Kuwait has announced an extended three-day holiday to Celebrate New Year, giving residents a perfect opportunity to welcome 2026 with family and friends. The government confirmed that the break will run from Thursday, January 1, to Saturday, January 3, allowing citizens to relax and Celebrate New Year in a festive atmosphere.
According to the official notification, government offices will reopen on Sunday, January 4. The long weekend is expected to encourage families to travel, attend community events, and spend quality time together as they Celebrate New Year across the country.
In total, Kuwait will have six public holidays in January. These holidays are split evenly between New Year celebrations and the holy occasion of Isra and Mi’raj. Officials said the schedule was designed to ensure a balanced start to the year while supporting cultural and religious traditions.
Isra and Mi’raj will fall on Friday, January 16. Since Friday is already a weekly holiday, Kuwaitis will enjoy an extended break from January 16 to January 18. This three-day weekend includes Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with Sunday declared a substitute holiday to ensure citizens benefit fully from the observance.
Government operations will return to normal on Monday, January 19. The extended holidays are expected to bring a positive boost to local tourism, shopping districts, and hospitality businesses, as residents make the most of the back-to-back long weekends.
Authorities have advised the public to plan travel early, as airports and recreation destinations are expected to see increased activity during both holiday periods.
