Transport Fare Increased By 4% After Fuel Price Hike in Pakistan

The Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance has announced a rise in Transport fare following the latest increase in petroleum prices. Transporters say the decision was necessary due to growing operational expenses across the country.

According to alliance leaders, goods transport fares will increase by 4 percent. The announcement came after the government raised petrol and diesel prices by nearly Rs15 per litre.

Malik Shehzad Awan, president of the alliance, strongly criticized the fuel price hike. He described the increase as unjustified and harmful for the transport industry. He stated that higher fuel costs directly affect the Transport fare system nationwide.

The latest fuel adjustment pushed petrol prices to Rs414.78 per litre. Diesel prices also climbed to Rs414.58 per litre. The revised rates became effective from May 9.

Transporters believe these changes will increase the cost of moving goods across Pakistan. As a result, the higher Transport fare is expected to impact market prices and daily expenses for citizens.

Malik Shehzad Awan also warned that current government policies are creating serious pressure on transport businesses. He said many operators are struggling to continue services due to rising costs.

He further criticized the Rs80,000 subsidy provided to truck and trailer owners. According to him, the amount is too low to manage increasing fuel and maintenance expenses.

The alliance warned that transporters may stop operations if the government fails to address their concerns. Awan stated that a nationwide strike could become unavoidable in the future. He added that the government would be responsible for any disruption in supply chains.

Experts believe the increase in Transport fare may affect several sectors. Higher transport costs usually lead to rising prices of food, fuel, and consumer goods. Middle- and lower-income families are expected to face the biggest impact.

Earlier this month, fuel prices had already increased significantly. Petrol rose by Rs6.51 per litre, while diesel increased by Rs19.39. The latest adjustment has added more pressure on consumers and businesses.

The continuous rise in fuel prices is also affecting public transport and delivery services. Many citizens fear that another increase in Transport fare could make daily travel and goods transportation even more expensive in the coming weeks.
