UHS to Launch New PhD Programs in Nursing, Public Health and Other Health Sciences

LAHORE: The University of Health Sciences (UHS) has announced plans to introduce several new PhD Programs in key healthcare disciplines. The initiative aims to expand advanced research opportunities and strengthen higher education in Pakistanโ€™s health sector.

The announcement was made by UHS Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ahsan Waheed Rathore during the 226th meeting of the Advanced Studies and Research Board (ASRB). The new PhD Programs will be offered in Nursing, Public Health, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT), and Oral Biology.

According to university officials, the introduction of these programs reflects the growing need for specialized research and academic training in healthcare fields. The university hopes the move will help produce highly qualified professionals and researchers.

During the meeting, Prof Rathore highlighted the universityโ€™s academic achievements over the past four years. He informed board members that UHS awarded 45 PhD degrees and 346 MPhil degrees during this period.

Members of the board noted that this was the highest number of PhD graduates produced under any vice chancellor in the universityโ€™s history. The achievement was described as an important milestone for the institutionโ€™s research and academic development.

The ASRB meeting also reviewed several research-related matters. The board approved PhD degrees in Forensic Sciences for Dr Zulfiqar Ali and Dr Nasreen Ishaque. Their research focused on determining the time since death through the analysis of vitreous humor, an important area in forensic investigations.

University officials said the approval followed the successful completion and evaluation of both research projects. The studies were reviewed according to academic standards and research requirements.

Prof Rathore also informed the board that UHS has updated its academic curricula. He said all programs have been revised to meet modern educational needs and international standards. The changes are intended to improve teaching methods, student training, and assessment systems.

The board further discussed and approved matters related to thesis evaluations, examiner appointments, and research synopses. These approvals covered MD, MS, MDS, MPhil, and PhD Programs across different disciplines.
