Pakistani travellers have faced significant challenges in obtaining a Visa for the United Kingdom and European countries, according to recent figures. More than 112,000 short-term Visa applications submitted by Pakistani citizens were rejected by the UK and Schengen countries, highlighting the difficulties many applicants continue to experience.
The figures show that a total of 112,387 applications for short-term travel visas were refused. The high number of rejections has created financial losses for thousands of Pakistani travellers and raised concerns about access to international travel.
According to the available data, around 72,000 Visa applications were rejected by the United Kingdom. The UK’s refusal rate stood at approximately 44 percent, meaning nearly half of the applications submitted by Pakistani citizens were unsuccessful.
Schengen countries also recorded a high rejection rate. A total of 40,199 applications were refused, with an overall rejection rate of 46 percent. The Schengen Area includes many European countries that issue a single visa allowing travel across multiple member states.
The rejected applications resulted in substantial financial losses for Pakistani travellers. Applicants collectively lost an estimated €14.35 million in non-refundable visa processing fees. This amount is equal to around Rs. 4.56 billion.
Since Visa application fees are generally non-refundable, applicants must pay the required charges regardless of whether their requests are approved or rejected. For many families, students, tourists, and business travellers, these costs represent a significant financial burden.
The latest figures also highlight the broader challenges Pakistanis face when planning international travel. Many people apply for visas to visit relatives, attend business meetings, pursue tourism, or participate in educational activities.
A rejected application often means applicants must restart the process if they wish to apply again. This may involve submitting updated documents, paying new application fees, and waiting for another decision.
Visa approval decisions are generally based on several factors. These may include the purpose of travel, financial documents, previous travel history, supporting evidence, and whether applicants meet the immigration requirements of the destination country.
Travel experts advise applicants to carefully review all documentation before submitting a visa request. Providing complete and accurate information may help reduce delays and improve the chances of approval.
Although many Pakistani travellers successfully obtain visas each year, the latest statistics show that rejection rates remain relatively high for both the UK and Schengen countries.
The figures underline the financial and practical challenges faced by Pakistani applicants seeking short-term travel opportunities abroad. Many travellers continue to hope for smoother application processes and greater access to international destinations in the future.
