Ulema from the National Peace Message Committee (NPAC) met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday. They pledged to visit terrorism-hit areas, engage with local communities, religious scholars, and the armed forces, and serve as frontline ambassadors of peace.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the committee would strengthen the national narrative against extremism and terrorism. He compared their role to the historic contributions of Ulema in the creation of Pakistan.
He highlighted that terrorism remains one of Pakistanโs most serious challenges, even as the country progresses toward development. He noted that over 100,000 Pakistanis had embraced martyrdom in the war against terrorism. The prime minister called on the international community to acknowledge Pakistanโs sacrifices and warned of credible evidence showing external support for terrorist elements operating inside the country.
Expressing confidence, he said Pakistan would once again defeat terrorism. He also praised minority communities for their positive contributions to national development and urged interfaith harmony for lasting peace.
Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar said NPAC members would visit different regions to convey messages of peace and counter hate-based narratives. He announced a two-day conference in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, bringing Ulema from all schools of thought to promote peace and discourage extremism.
Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi, Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) Chairman and NPAC Coordinator, confirmed that committee members would visit terrorism-hit areas, interact with local communities and armed forces, and act as peace ambassadors.
Meeting participants, including Ulema and minority representatives, expressed full support for the government initiative. They unanimously declared terrorists and Khawarij as enemies of the state. They stressed the importance of countering anti-state narratives by engaging and guiding the youth positively.
The Qaumi Paigham-e-Aman Committee, they said, symbolises national unity. It will play a critical role in promoting peace, harmony, and stability across Pakistan, especially in terrorism-hit areas.
