In response to the recent arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case, the United States State Department chose to exercise caution by remaining silent and categorizing the issue as Pakistan’s internal affair. State Department spokesperson Mathew Miller was asked about the US government’s stance on Imran Khan’s detention, to which he responded, “The cases against Imran Khan and other politicians in Pakistan are an internal matter.” Miller further highlighted the US commitment to promoting democratic principles and the rule of law globally, including in Pakistan.

Mr. Khan’s arrest occurred for the second time in three months, immediately after the Islamabad sessions court sentenced him to three-year imprisonment and a five-year disqualification in the Toshakhana criminal case. He was taken to Attock Jail for detention and underwent a medical examination. Subsequently, sources indicate that the deposed premier will be moved to Adala Jail.
