According to a report on Tuesday, Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has banned the use of green meters commonly employed in solar systems.
Instead, consumers are required to replace them with Advance Metering Infrastructure (AMI) meters. Sarwar Mughal, Director of Customer Services, issued a notification enforcing this ban.

LESCO will now issue a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) for the purchase of AMI meters for solar connections. Consumers must procure these meters from the market based on the NOC, which will incur an additional financial burden of Rs20,000.
The cost difference between AMI meters and green meters totals twenty thousand rupees. The adoption of AMI meters is anticipated to address issues like overbilling and electricity theft.
