Dr. Usman Anwar has been assigned the additional responsibility of DG of the National Police Bureau. He will continue serving as the head of the Federal Investigation Agency alongside this new role.
The appointment was made through an official notification approved by PM Shehbaz Sharif. According to the notification, Dr. Anwar will hold the additional DG charge for three months. The arrangement will remain in place until a permanent appointment is made.
Officials confirmed that the appointment became effective from May 1, 2026. The move is seen as part of ongoing efforts to ensure continuity in key law enforcement institutions.
Dr. Usman Anwar was appointed as DG of the Federal Investigation Agency earlier this year. His appointment came after a major reshuffle in Punjab’s senior police leadership.
Before joining the FIA as DG, Dr. Anwar served as the Inspector General of the Punjab Police. He held that position from January 2023 and led several policing reforms during his tenure.
Dr. Anwar is regarded as an experienced officer in Pakistan’s law enforcement system. He belongs to the Police Service of Pakistan and joined Punjab Police in 1995.
Over the years, he has served in several important positions. His career includes serving as Director FIA Lahore and Additional Inspector General of the National Highways and Motorway Police.
He has also worked as Additional IG of Punjab Special Branch. In addition, he served as district police officer in both Okara and Sargodha.
The additional appointment reflects the government’s confidence in his administrative abilities and leadership experience. His dual role is expected to support coordination between national policing institutions.
Officials believe Dr. Anwar’s experience will help strengthen the functioning of the National Police Bureau during this interim period. His leadership as DG is expected to ensure smooth operations until a regular appointment is finalized.
