Punjab authorities have extended the Vehicle Fitness Deadline to December 31, 2026, giving motorists more time to obtain mandatory fitness certificates. The decision aims to reduce overcrowding at inspection centres and make the certification process easier.

The Punjab Provincial Transport Authority (PPTA) announced the extension after motorists faced long queues at testing facilities. Authorities had previously moved the deadline from October 15 to November 15. The latest decision provides vehicle owners with additional time to complete inspections and emissions tests.

The extension comes as a large number of motorists seek to fulfil the certification requirements. Officials are also planning to expand inspection facilities across the province to handle the increased demand.

More Vehicle Inspection Centres Planned

Alongside the revised Vehicle Fitness Deadline, the PPTA plans to increase the number of vehicle inspection centres. The move is intended to reduce waiting times and improve access to testing services.

Punjab currently has 20 Punjab Vehicle Inspection and Certification System (PVICS) centres. These facilities operate in Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan and Sadiqabad.

Authorities have also kept emissions testing points operational around the clock. This arrangement allows motorists to access testing services beyond regular working hours.

The planned expansion is expected to improve testing capacity and help vehicle owners complete the required formalities before the new deadline. Motorists are encouraged to arrange their inspections early to avoid another rush near the final date.

New Fitness Certificate Exemption Rules

The PPTA has also revised fitness certification requirements for newly manufactured motor cars. The exemption period now varies according to engine capacity.

Under the revised criteria, cars with engines of up to 1,000cc will require fitness certificates after five years from their manufacturing date.

Vehicles with engine capacities between 1,001cc and 2,000cc will become subject to certification after six years. Cars with engines exceeding 2,000cc will require fitness certificates after seven years.

These rules establish different timelines for vehicle categories. Owners should check their vehicle’s manufacturing date and engine capacity to determine when certification becomes necessary.

Motorists Get More Time to Complete Certification

The extension of the Vehicle Fitness Deadline gives vehicle owners across Punjab more time to meet the requirements. The additional period may also help reduce pressure on existing inspection centres.

The expansion of testing facilities and round-the-clock emissions services are intended to make the process more accessible. However, motorists should confirm the applicable requirements and fees before visiting a testing centre.

With the deadline now set for December 31, 2026, vehicle owners have several more weeks to arrange inspections and obtain the required certificates. Authorities aim to improve compliance while reducing congestion at testing facilities across the province.
