The Met Office has issued a new weather update as a westerly wave approaches western regions of the country. The system is expected to persist until 12th March, bringing varying rainfall and thunderstorms.
From the evening of 9th March to 12th March, partly cloudy to cloudy weather is expected in districts including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battgram, Buner, Malakand, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir. Moderate rain with occasional heavy falls, wind, and thunderstorms are likely during this period.
Light rain, wind, and thunderstorms are also forecast in Khyber, Mohmand, Peshawar, Swabi, Mardan, Charsadda, Nowshera, Bajaur, Bannu, Waziristan, Orakzai, Kurram, Kohat, Hangu, and Mianwali on 10th and 11th March. Residents in these areas should remain alert for sudden weather changes.
The weather update also includes the Islamabad, Pothohar region, Murree, and Galliyat. Rain and thunderstorms are expected from the night of 9th March to 11th March, with occasional gaps. Isolated hailstorms may occur in Islamabad and upper parts of the country during this period.
Daytime temperatures are expected to drop by 3 to 4 ยฐC in upper regions. The Met Office has warned that landslides may occur in vulnerable areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir. Tourists and locals are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and remain cautious during this forecast period.
Additionally, due to winds carrying pollutants from Iran, air quality may deteriorate in western parts of the country. People with respiratory issues should take precautions and limit outdoor activities.
This weather update highlights the need for preparedness in affected regions. Authorities have advised residents to secure homes and stay informed about local weather changes. Continuous monitoring of rainfall and wind conditions is recommended until the westerly wave subsides on 12th March.
