KARACHI: Uncertainty continues across Sindh as parents, students, and school administrations wait for a decision on Summer Vacations. Many are wondering whether the provincial government will extend the holidays due to expected extreme weather in August.
The Sindh government had earlier announced Summer Vacations for all public and private schools from June 1 to July 31, 2026. According to the official academic calendar, the new 2026–27 academic session is set to begin on August 1, 2026.
As the reopening date gets closer, concerns are increasing because of weather forecasts. Many parents believe high temperatures could affect students’ health. The discussion has also gained attention on social media, where users continue to debate whether schools should reopen as planned.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast hot and humid weather across Sindh throughout August. These conditions could increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially among young children attending school.
Karachi and other coastal areas are expected to experience particularly high humidity. The combination of heat and moisture could make the weather feel much hotter than the actual temperature. This may create uncomfortable conditions for students and school staff.
Weather experts have also predicted monsoon rainfall in different parts of Sindh. Heavy rain could affect daily travel and create transportation problems. Low-lying areas may also face urban flooding, making it difficult for students and teachers to reach educational institutions safely.
Despite the growing public concern, the Sindh Education Department has not announced any extension of Summer Vacations. No official notification has been issued regarding changes to the academic schedule.
Officials have also not indicated that the current academic calendar will be revised. Based on the latest available information, all public and private educational institutions are expected to reopen on August 1, 2026.
Many parents are closely monitoring government updates before making preparations for the new school session. School administrations are also waiting for any official instructions regarding reopening plans.
Last year, the Sindh government faced similar weather conditions during the end of the holiday period. However, it decided not to extend the summer break. Schools resumed classes according to the previously announced schedule despite concerns over seasonal heat.
At present, the government has maintained the same position. Unless an official announcement is made, schools across Sindh will reopen as planned at the start of August.
