KHANEWAL: A newlywed woman was allegedly killed in the name of honour in Khanewal, Punjab. The incident happened just three days after her marriage.
Police said the victim was identified as Iqra. She had married a man of her choice three days before the alleged killing.
The marriage was reportedly a love marriage. Police said the couple had chosen to marry each other.
The incident took place in Chak No. 170/10-R in Khanewal district. Police launched an investigation after receiving information about the alleged killing.
According to police, Iqra’s father, Falak Sher, brought her back from her in-laws’ home. He allegedly used a false reason to take her home.
Police said Falak Sher told the family that Iqra’s formal departure would be arranged from her parental home. The woman was therefore taken back to her family.
However, police allege that Iqra was later strangled at her parental home. Her father has been accused of carrying out the killing.
Police further alleged that two of Iqra’s brothers and her son were involved. The exact roles of all suspects are being investigated.
The alleged killing has raised concerns about violence against women following a love marriage. Authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the case.
Police have arrested Falak Sher in connection with the incident. A case has also been registered against him and his three sons.
