KARACHI: A woman attacked by local residents in Karachi was later found to be the mother of a child she had left near a garbage dump.
The incident took place in Liaquat Ashraf Colony, located in Mahmoodabad, Karachi. Police said residents saw the woman leaving the young child near a garbage dump.
Local women reportedly followed the woman and surrounded her. They then assaulted her after becoming suspicious about the child.
Police teams from Mahmoodabad and Madadgar 15 reached the area after receiving information about the incident. The situation was brought under control by the police.
Residents initially believed the woman had kidnapped the child. They suspected she abandoned the child because she feared being caught.
However, the police investigation later revealed that the child actually belonged to the woman. The woman was then taken to the police station along with the child.
Police questioned the woman to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident. Her husband and other family members later arrived at the police station.
According to the Mahmoodabad Station House Officer (SHO), the woman’s husband said she was not mentally well.
The SHO said leaving the child near the garbage dump could have put his life at serious risk. He added that the child could have suffered severe harm or even died.
The case was resolved after the woman’s family reached the police station. Police handed the child back to the woman after discussing the matter with her relatives.
Authorities advised the family to arrange proper medical treatment for the woman. Police also stressed the danger involved in leaving a young child unattended near a garbage dump.
The Woman attacked in the incident was not booked for kidnapping after police confirmed the child’s identity and relationship with her.
Police said the matter was ultimately settled with the intervention of the family. No further legal action was taken in the case.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of children left unattended in public places. It also highlights the need for timely family support when someone requires medical or psychological care.
