A formal notification has been issued by the Local Government Department confirming a new work arrangement for employees. According to the notification, staff will now work from home every Friday. This home policy has been implemented for an initial period of two months. Authorities may extend it depending on future developments.
The notification explained that offices will remain closed on Fridays. This measure is part of a fuel conservation and responsible governance initiative introduced by the provincial government. Under the plan, all work on Fridays will be conducted entirely online.
All officers in the Local Government Department have been instructed to follow the directives fully. The instructions cover all offices, including field formations, which will also operate remotely under the new home policy.
Earlier this month, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet approved a broader work-from-home policy. The plan allows 50% of staff in government departments to work remotely. This decision is part of a larger initiative to save fuel and encourage responsible governance.
Shafi Jan, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Information and Public Relations, stated that the new measures include holding 100% of official meetings online. Additionally, fuel allowances for official vehicles will be reduced by 25%, aiming to cut overall government vehicle fuel consumption by 50%.
Certain departments, including police, rescue, and security agencies, are exempted from these fuel reduction rules. The policy also seeks to limit VIP protocol vehicle and helicopter usage, restrict non-essential government events and dinners, and promote fiscal responsibility in official spending.
Officials have emphasized that the home policy will help reduce operational costs while maintaining government efficiency. Departments are expected to fully comply to achieve the desired savings and environmental benefits.
The government will review the arrangement after two months to assess its effectiveness. Depending on results, the work-from-home schedule could continue for an extended period.
