Workers Evacuated as Fire Breaks Out in Karachi Factory

A massive fire broke out in a cardboard factory in Karachi on Saturday, officials reported. The factory is located near Zubaida Masjid in the Nazimabad No. 4 area.

Seven fire-brigade vehicles rushed to the scene immediately after the incident was reported. Rescue teams worked quickly to bring the fire under control and evacuate all workers safely. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

Meanwhile, another major fire swept through offices of traders at the New Sabzi Mandi (vegetables market) in Karachi. Thick smoke engulfed eight offices located under a shed in the market, causing panic among traders.

Rescue and fire-brigade teams reached the site promptly. It took about one and a half hours to control the blaze and prevent it from spreading further. Thankfully, no loss of life was reported at the market either.

Trader Farooq informed the media that significant amounts of cash were destroyed in the fire. “About 60 million rupees were lying in drawers when the fire broke out,” he said. He added that the losses could be higher as they continued to assess the damage.

Officials believe the fire at the New Sabzi Mandi started due to a short-circuit. Traders have demanded that permanent fire-brigade facilities be deployed at the 100-acre market to prevent such incidents in the future.

The Karachi Fire Department urged local authorities and business owners to implement better safety measures. They stressed the importance of fire extinguishers, emergency exits, and routine electrical checks to minimize risks.
