YouTuber Known for Exposing India’s Poop-Throwing Festival Investigates Jewish Town Welfare Claims

American YouTuber Tyler Oliveira, who gained attention after covering India’s poop-throwing festival, has now investigated Kiryas Joel. This town is the largest Jewish settlement outside Israel.

Tyler, with over eight million YouTube subscribers, visited Kiryas Joel in New York to look into reports that many residents rely on government benefits and have limited formal employment. The town receives millions in state and federal aid, prompting public curiosity.

In his 40-minute video, Tyler spoke with several Hasidic Jewish residents and local Hispanic workers. While many residents declined interviews, some shared that families often have 10–12 children on average.

When asked about supporting large families, residents said they work in construction, sales, daycare, and bus driving. However, Hispanic workers claimed that most labor is done by their community, while Hasidic Jews reportedly do not work outside the community. Media reports estimate the town receives around $94 million in state and relief funds annually.

Tyler also explored how residents access government programs. A local salesman stated that nearly all households use Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) for groceries. Similarly, a medical receptionist reported that most patients rely on Medicaid, another government-funded program.

The population of Kiryas Joel has doubled from 2010 to 2024. Many residents expressed disapproval of the State of Israel, stating that “Zionism is not Judaism.” Despite controversy, Tyler praised the town for its very low crime rate and strong community service.

Tyler Oliveira first became known for his coverage of India’s poop-throwing festival, which went viral across South Asia. The festival is an unusual and traditional event where participants throw cow dung, attracting global attention. His video on Kiryas Joel shows a shift from quirky viral events to serious community investigations.
