PM Shehbaz Directs Implementation of High-Level Security Measures and Road Infrastructure for Reko Diq Project

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif presided over a meeting regarding the Reko Diq project, hosting a delegation from Barrick Gold Company, with CEO Mark Bristow at the helm. During the session, the premier emphasized the importance of ensuring comprehensive security measures for Reko Diq project personnel and logistics. Additionally, he instructed authorities to enhance road infrastructure to facilitate project operations and pledged to address any obstacles hindering progress.

 

Attended by notable figures such as Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb, Minister for Petroleum Musadik Malik, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Muhammad Jahanzeb, and other senior government officials, the meeting delved into various aspects of the project’s development.

Updates on infrastructure advancements, including progress on the construction of the link road from Reko Diq to National Highway 40 by Link Road Mining Company, were presented. Notably, the completion of 58% of the 103 km road from Nokundi to Mashkhel was highlighted.

Furthermore, plans were outlined for the transportation of 6,000 containers monthly from Reko Diq to the harbor, along with insights into the project’s extensive concentrate pipeline.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif underscored the significance of optimizing mineral resources in Balochistan, particularly emphasizing improvements in communication infrastructure and railway lines. He stressed the timely development and construction of new road infrastructure while also expediting the upgrade of existing roads to connect Reko Diq with Gwadar.

Moreover, directives were issued to explore the feasibility of establishing a railway network from Reko Diq to Gwadar Port, aiming to reduce distance to Qasim Port and enhance the mining industry in the Chagai district.
