IHC to Hear Imran's Bail Plea in Cypher Case on Monday

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has scheduled the hearing of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chief and former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s bail application in the missing cypher case for Monday, September 25. Chief Justice Aamer Farooq will preside over the hearing and has issued a notice to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to present their arguments.

Additionally, the IHC had previously reserved its decision on Imran Khan’s request to transfer from Attock jail to Adiala jail. The case has now been set for a re-hearing on September 25 to further clarify certain legal points.

In his bail application, Imran Khan argues that the prosecution filed a malicious and fabricated case against him. He alleges that the special court, designated to hear cases related to the Official Secrets Act, disregarded several irregularities and contradictions in the prosecution’s case.

The missing cypher case pertains to an incident on March 27, 2022, when Imran Khan displayed a piece of paper, allegedly a diplomatic cypher, during a public gathering in Islamabad. He claimed it was evidence of an “international conspiracy” to overthrow his government. The FIA initiated an investigation into the case, leading to the arrest of Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi on charges of violating the Official Secrets Act.
