Imran Khan’s Sister Noreen Niazi Allowed to Meet Him at Adiala Jail

Imran Khan’s Sister Noreen Niazi Allowed to Meet Him at Adiala Jail

RAWALPINDI: The Supreme Court has ordered authorities to facilitate regular family meetings for jailed PTI founder Imran Khan. The court also directed officials to arrange hospital treatment and expand his medical assessment.

The decision came amid concerns over Imran Khan’s health and limited family access. The court directed authorities to allow weekly meetings with his family.

Following the order, his sister Noreen Niazi was allowed to proceed to Adiala Jail. She had arrived at the Dahgal checkpoint with her sisters Aleema Khan and Dr Uzma Khan.

Police initially stopped all three women at the checkpoint. Noreen was later permitted to continue toward the prison.

Jail officials confirmed that Noreen entered Adiala Jail through Gate 5. She was scheduled to meet Imran in the conference room.

The development came alongside a separate meeting involving Bushra Bibi. Her daughter Mehrunnisa and sister-in-law Musarrat Khawar Maneka were allowed to meet her.

A three-member Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Shahid Waheed issued the directions. The bench reviewed medical findings and a report from the Adiala Jail superintendent.

The reports recommended greater interaction between Imran and his immediate family. They also highlighted concerns involving anxiety and blood pressure.

Justice Waheed said family meetings should not be treated as a favour. The court considered access to close relatives a fundamental right.

The court also placed a condition on political activity. PTI representatives must avoid political activities and media engagement after meeting Imran.

PTI representatives assured the court that they would follow the direction.

Before entering the prison, Noreen spoke to reporters about her planned meeting. She said she would inform Imran about the Supreme Court’s permission.

She also planned to brief him about efforts by PTI workers on his behalf.

Aleema Khan welcomed the Supreme Court’s intervention. However, she questioned why Bushra Bibi had not received similar relief earlier.

She said the family had sought hospital treatment for Imran for around eight months. According to Aleema, the latest order was an important step toward securing medical care.

She also rejected claims that the family was using Imran’s health for political purposes. Aleema said the family was speaking as his sisters.

The court’s decision now provides a formal framework for regular family access. It also places greater emphasis on Imran Khan’s medical needs while he remains in custody.

The development marks a significant judicial intervention concerning the former prime minister’s prison conditions. Further meetings and medical arrangements are expected to follow the court’s directions.
