QUETTA: Train services faced major disruption on Saturday after the Jaffar Express was cancelled due to security concerns, officials confirmed.
The Quetta-to-Peshawar Jaffar Express cancelled service left many passengers stranded at stations. Railways authorities said the return train from Peshawar to Quetta was also cancelled, as the same security risks applied in both directions.
This marks another setback for long-distance travelers, as the Jaffar Express cancelled schedule adds to growing uncertainty around train operations in Balochistan.
Adding to the disruption, officials also confirmed that the Bolan Mail from Quetta to Karachi did not operate on Saturday. No announcement has yet been made regarding when services for either train will resume.
However, railways authorities clarified that not all operations were suspended. The Chaman Passenger train departed Quetta for Chaman on time, making it the only passenger train to leave the city as scheduled.
Officials said security agencies were actively monitoring the situation and assured that train services would resume once safety could be guaranteed.
The Jaffar Express has long been considered one of the most important routes, connecting Quetta to major cities, including Peshawar. Its cancellation not only affects passengers but also impacts trade and connectivity between provinces.
Travelers expressed frustration over the abrupt suspension, urging authorities to strengthen security so essential services are not repeatedly disrupted.
Meanwhile, railway staff advised passengers to stay updated through official announcements and avoid unnecessary travel until normal operations resume.
The Pakistan Railways has yet to provide a confirmed timeline for when the Jaffar Express or Bolan Mail will restart operations.
