ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister PM Shehbaz Sharif has appointed former bureaucrat Mansoor Qadir as the election commissioner of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
The appointment was made in his capacity as the patron of the board, a role reserved for the sitting prime minister.
After assuming his new responsibilities, Mansoor Qadir held a meeting with PCB Chairman Syed Mohsin Naqvi. During the meeting, he briefed the chairman about his role and responsibilities.
Chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed confidence that Qadir would perform his duties with honesty and dedication, ensuring transparency in PCB’s electoral process.
The move by PM Shehbaz is being seen as part of efforts to bring stability and fair governance to cricket administration in the country. Cricket experts say the appointment of an experienced former bureaucrat could help streamline PCB’s internal matters.
Meanwhile, in cricketing action, Pakistan’s T20I captain Salman Ali Agha praised all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz for his match-winning performance against Afghanistan.
Nawaz played a vital role in dismantling Afghanistan’s batting order during the final of the tri-nation series at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Speaking after the victory, Agha said that Pakistan is fully prepared for the upcoming Asia Cup. He highlighted that the team’s decision to include two spinners was based on pitch conditions, which proved effective.
With the Asia Cup around the corner, Pakistan’s squad is focusing on refining its strategy and building momentum. The leadership role of PM Shehbaz in ensuring strong cricket governance and the team’s growing confidence ahead of major tournaments reflect a dual push towards stability both on and off the field.
