PM Shehbaz Orders Urgent Flood Relief in KP

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has moved quickly to address the severe flooding in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, directing federal and provincial agencies to intensify rescue and relief operations.

The prime minister chaired an emergency meeting at the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) headquarters in Islamabad, where officials briefed him on the damage caused by heavy rains and flash floods in districts such as Buner. NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik updated the meeting on the growing threat posed by swollen rivers and landslides.

PM Shehbaz expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and stressed that the federal government stands firmly with the victims. He assured that every possible step will be taken to provide shelter, food, and medicines to the affected population.

In direct conversations with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, the prime minister pledged full federal assistance. Essential supplies are already being dispatched to flood-hit areas, while emergency teams have been instructed to prioritize the evacuation of stranded citizens and tourists.

The NDMA has issued a high-level alert for the Swat River, where water levels have risen sharply at Munda Headworks, signaling a severe flood threat. Coordination with local authorities has been strengthened to prevent further damage and safeguard communities.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has also raised alarms over the latest spell of monsoon rains. Heavy showers are expected in several districts within the next 24 hours, with officials urging constant monitoring of rivers, streams, and low-lying areas.

Rescue teams, health departments, and civil defense units remain on high alert across Punjab. PDMA has assured that full support will be provided to local administrations to minimize risks and respond effectively to emergencies.

PM Shehbaz has directed all authorities to use maximum resources to protect lives and deliver relief swiftly, reaffirming that the safety and well-being of citizens remain the top priority.
