MUZAFFARABAD – The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission has ordered Re-polling at 23 polling stations. The decision covers constituencies LA-15 and LA-16.
Re-polling will take place at nine polling stations in LA-15. Another 14 polling stations in LA-16 will also hold fresh polling.
The Election Commission has scheduled the Re-polling for August 15. Polling will begin at 8am and continue until 5pm.
An Election Commission spokesperson confirmed the decision. The move followed reports submitted by the respective returning officers.
The spokesperson also provided an update on the results received so far. In LA-15, officials received results from 204 of 213 polling stations.
In LA-16, results from 172 of 186 polling stations had been received. The remaining stations will complete the electoral process after fresh polling.
The Election Commission said the election process would conclude after Re-polling at the affected stations. Authorities will then proceed with the remaining electoral procedures.
The decision comes after polling in several areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Officials are reviewing reports from returning officers before finalising the results.
Meanwhile, several notable political developments have emerged from the election. Muslim Conference chief Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan suffered a major defeat.
The two-time former prime minister has been voted out of the Legislative Assembly. He had represented the assembly for around 20 years.
Awami Dast-o-Bazu Party candidate Sajid Iqbal defeated Attique Ahmed Khan. He won the seat by a margin of more than 21,000 votes.
According to unofficial and unverified results from all 214 polling stations in LA-14, Iqbal secured 40,702 votes. Attique Ahmed Khan received 19,542 votes.
The results show a significant shift in the constituency’s political landscape. However, the figures remain unofficial and unverified.
Another important result came from LA-17 Haveli. The Pakistan Peoples Party won the constituency.
PPP candidate Faisal Mumtaz Rathore secured 31,839 votes. PML-N candidate Mohsin Aziz finished second with 28,975 votes.
The Election Commission will continue its work following the scheduled fresh polling. The results from the affected stations will be incorporated into the final election record.
Voters in the affected areas will return to polling stations on August 15. Officials are expected to maintain the same polling hours from 8am to 5pm.
The fresh polling will be closely watched by political parties and candidates. Its outcome will help determine the final results in LA-15 and LA-16.
