Prime Minister Expresses Disapproval of Imran Khan's Letter to IMF

In Islamabad, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar has expressed his strong disapproval of a letter written by PTI chief Imran Khan to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), characterizing the move as “highly irresponsible.”

During an appearance on a talk show of a private TV channel, Prime Minister Kakar stated that the letter was sent at a time when the caretaker government had made significant efforts for economic revival. He highlighted positive trends in relevant indicators and the achievement of various financial targets. Currently, negotiations are underway with the IMF for a crucial $6-billion-dollar agreement, with various multilateral agreements also contingent upon it.

Prime Minister Kakar emphasized that there are appropriate forums for addressing electoral disputes, and the decision by PTI to write a letter to the IMF was unjustified and highly irresponsible. He acknowledged that, in tangible terms, the letter may have no immediate effects, but it could carry political costs for the PTI. Responding to a question, Kakar mentioned that he appeared before the Islamabad High Court in the Baloch missing persons’ case to demonstrate that the interim set-up was functioning under constitutional order. He added that court orders should be respected, and his appearance aimed to reiterate the same stance and set a precedent.
