Punjab Enforces Ban on Vehicles Without Fitness Certificates on Motorways

The provincial government of Punjab, in a significant move, has prohibited the entry of vehicles lacking fitness certificates and route permits on motorways and highways.

Caretaker Chief Minister Moshin Naqvi oversaw the signing of an agreement with the National Highways and Motorway Police to implement this ban.

According to the agreement, it is now mandatory for the Punjab Transport Department and the Motorway Police to exchange information regarding vehicle fitness and route permits.

To ensure the enforcement of rules, focal persons will be designated by both departments for the effective exchange of information.

This initiative is part of the provincial government’s broader strategy to combat smog in Punjab. CM Moshin Naqvi, speaking at the ceremony, commended the environmentally friendly measures.

In a noteworthy announcement pertaining to unregistered Chingchi rickshaws, he declared a one-month window for free vehicle registration. After this period, unregistered rickshaws will not be permitted on the roads.

Furthermore, the caretaker CM revealed plans for the establishment of a trauma center on the Lahore-Islamabad M2 Motorway, facilitated by the National Highway Authority.
