Actor O Yeong-Su, known for his role in the hit series Squid Game, has been sentenced to 8 months in prison after being found guilty of sexual misconduct with a woman in 2017.
The Seongnam Branch of the Suwon District Court delivered the verdict on Friday, imposing an 8-month prison term on the 79-year-old actor, along with a two-year suspension.
During the hearing, Judge Jeong Yeon-ju remarked that the victim’s claims and evidence regarding the sexual misconduct were consistent and compelling, indicating that they likely stemmed from genuine experiences.

In addition to the prison sentence, O Yeong-Su has been mandated to attend 40 hours of classes on sexual violence.
The accusations against O Yeong-Su surfaced in 2022 when a woman accused him of sexually assaulting her in 2017 while he was staying in a rural area for a theatre performance. The incidents were reported to have occurred on a walking path and in front of her house.
These charges came after O Yeong-Su made headlines for being the first South Korean actor to win a Golden Globe Award for best supporting actor in the acclaimed Netflix series Squid Game.
Squid Game, which gained immense popularity shortly after its release in 2021, depicts individuals forced to participate in perilous variations of traditional children’s games.
