Afghanistan 'A' Team Clinches Emerging Asia Cup Title

Afghanistan ‘A’ claimed their first Emerging Asia Cup title by defeating Sri Lanka ‘A’ in the final on Sunday. Chasing a modest target of 134 runs, Afghanistan comfortably reached 137/3 in just 18.1 overs at Al Amerat.

The chase began with a setback as opener Zubaid Akbari was dismissed on the first ball. However, Sediqullah Atal anchored Afghanistan’s innings with a steady 55 not out from 55 balls. He formed a crucial 43-run partnership with captain Darwish Rasooli, who contributed 24 off 20 balls, laying a strong foundation for the chase.

After Rasooli’s dismissal, Karim Janat played a vital knock of 33 from 27 balls, taking Afghanistan closer to the target. Wicketkeeper Mohammad Ishaq then added a quickfire 16 off 6 balls, remaining unbeaten alongside Atal to secure the win and lift the trophy.

Earlier, Sri Lanka ‘A’ struggled against Afghanistan’s disciplined bowling attack, managing only 133/7 after electing to bat. Bilal Sami was the standout bowler for Afghanistan with figures of 3-22, while AM Ghazanfar provided strong support, taking 2-14 in his four overs.

This victory followed Afghanistan ‘A’s remarkable performance in the semi-final, where they defended a target of 207 against India ‘A’, restricting them to 186/7.

Meanwhile, defending champions Pakistan Shaheens were knocked out by Sri Lanka ‘A’ in the first semi-final. Dushan Hemantha’s four-wicket haul and Ahan Wickramasinghe’s half-century helped Sri Lanka ‘A’ chase down Pakistan’s target of 136 in the 17th over, setting up the final clash with Afghanistan.
