Former Indian opening batsman, Gautam Gambhir, has recently garnered attention for his behavior during the ongoing 50-over Asia Cup 2023 in Sri Lanka.

In a highly charged match between Pakistan and India last week, Indian spectators chanted “Kohli, Kohli” in a mocking reference to the rift between Gambhir and Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli.

In response to the taunts, Gambhir appeared visibly upset and allegedly made an inappropriate gesture toward the fans before leaving the scene.

This behavior was met with disapproval from both cricket fans and the general public, who criticized the former cricketer, now a commentator, for his actions.

Hours later, Gambhir clarified his actions, stating that his behavior was a reaction to anti-India chants from Pakistani fans in the stadium.

In response to Gambhir’s explanation, former Pakistani captain Shahid Afridi commented that as sportsmen, it is important to convey a positive message to the world.

Afridi expressed his belief that sportsmen serve as ambassadors for their respective countries in global sports and have a responsibility to spread positivity.

The incident has added an extra layer of tension as Pakistan and India are scheduled to face each other again in the Super Fours stage of the Asia Cup on September 10 in Sri Lanka.
