Alex Carey Withdraws From PSL 10 as Islamabad United Prepare for Title Defence

Australia’s wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey has pulled out of the 10th edition of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL), just ahead of Islamabad United’s opening clash against Lahore Qalandars in Rawalpindi. The franchise confirmed the news on Friday, citing Carey’s domestic cricket commitments in Australia.

Carey was signed as a partial replacement for South African batter Rassie van der Dussen. With the Aussie unavailable, Islamabad United will now await van der Dussen’s return to fill the gap in their batting lineup.

The 10th edition of the PSL kicks off with six teams competing across four cities in 34 thrilling matches. Rawalpindi will host 11 games, including Islamabad United’s opening encounter, while the grand finale is scheduled at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on May 18.

Despite Carey’s absence, Islamabad United boasts a strong squad led by Shadab Khan and featuring key players like Naseem Shah, Jason Holder, and Colin Munro. The defending champions are expected to remain competitive as they aim to retain their title in this landmark season.
