Italian skier Federica Brignone clinched victory in the women’s World Cup downhill at Garmisch-Partenkirchen on Saturday, narrowly edging out compatriot Sofia Goggia by just 0.01 seconds. Brignone, 34, clocked 1:35.83 to claim her second career downhill win, while Switzerland’s Corinne Suter finished third, 0.19 seconds behind.
The race was marred by Austrian Nina Ortlieb’s high-speed crash, resulting in a fractured right leg and requiring her to be airlifted off the course. Meanwhile, Goggia battled through a dislocated shoulder sustained during her run to secure second place but admitted her injury limited her performance.

Lindsey Vonn, who returned this season after retiring in 2019, failed to finish for the second consecutive race. The 40-year-old legend skied out with seven gates remaining, continuing her struggles since her comeback, which she undertook with a titanium knee.
Brignone credited her mental resilience and training for the win, saying, “I put the pieces together today.” She now shifts her focus to Sunday’s Super-G and the upcoming World Championships.
