The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former cricketer and current selector Asad Shafiq to join the national team in Australia for the upcoming series. This decision follows PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi’s approval of a proposal to have a selector accompany the team on overseas tours.
In his new role, Shafiq will assess the pitch and weather conditions in Australia to aid in selecting the best-suited players for each match. He will collaborate closely with the captain and head coach, providing valuable recommendations and insights to the selection committee, who will finalize the playing XI.

“In essence, the PCB is taking proactive measures to enhance the team’s performance in Australia by sending a seasoned cricketer and selector like Asad Shafiq to provide on-ground insights,” an official stated.
Shafiq is expected to deliver detailed feedback on conditions and player performances, which will be instrumental in informing future decisions.
The Pakistan team is scheduled to play three ODIs and three T20Is against Australia from November 4 to 18, and Shafiq’s presence is anticipated to help the team adapt quickly to the Australian environment. Following the tour, he will compile a report summarizing his observations and recommendations for the selection committee.
