Australia Clinches 184-Run Victory Over India in Boxing Day Test to Lead Series 2-1

In a thrilling finish on Monday, Australia defeated India by 184 runs in the Boxing Day Test at Melbourne, with Nathan Lyon claiming the final wicket of Mohammed Siraj, sparking wild celebrations among the 74,000-strong crowd at the MCG.

This victory gives Australia a 2-1 lead in the five-match Border-Gavaskar series and puts them in a commanding position to reclaim the trophy.

To clinch the series, Australia only needs to avoid defeat in the upcoming Sydney Test.

Australia is currently second in the World Test Championship standings and still has a chance to face South Africa in the 2025 Test final, as long as they win one of their remaining three matches.

India, however, must win the final Test in Sydney and hope for an Australian slip-up in Sri Lanka to maintain their hopes of qualifying for the final.
