Countdown Has Started For The Historic Ashes Day-Night Test

Australia’s captain Alyssa Healy and vice-captain Tahlia McGrath are gearing up for a historic event as the countdown begins for the first-ever day-night Test Match in the CommBank Women’s Ashes series at the MCG. The landmark match is set to take place from January 30 to February 2, 2025, marking six months until the event.

This Test will be a significant moment, coinciding with the 90th anniversary of the first women’s Test at the MCG, which was the third Test in the Australia-England series of 1934-35.

Healy expressed excitement about the upcoming match, highlighting its special significance as it celebrates the anniversary of the first women’s Test series played under lights at this iconic venue.

She also mentioned preparations for a busy summer, including the ICC T20 World Cup in Bangladesh, home series against New Zealand and India, and the multi-format Ashes series. Healy hopes for strong support from Australian fans.

Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley praised the anticipation for the day-night Test, noting it will be a standout event at a world-renowned venue. He also acknowledged the support from the Victorian Government and Melbourne Cricket Club, emphasizing that the Australian Women’s team is among the most successful in sports history.

Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos highlighted the MCG’s capacity to host significant events, noting that such occasions boost the local economy and energize the city.

Melbourne Cricket Club CEO Stuart Fox emphasized the MCG’s storied history, having hosted the first international Test in 1877 and the first One-Day International in 1971. He expressed pride in adding the day-night Test to the MCG’s legacy, particularly as it coincides with the 90th anniversary of the venue’s first women’s Test.
