Cricketer Fatally Shot Outside His Residence

Former Sri Lanka Cricketer Under-19 captain Dhammika Niroshana has passed away at the age of 41 after being shot outside his home in Ambalangoda, Sri Lanka. The incident occurred when an unidentified assailant opened fire, leaving Niroshana critically injured, according to ESPNCricinfo.

Sri Lankan police have initiated an investigation to identify and apprehend the shooter and are urging witnesses to come forward with any information.

Niroshana, a talented Cricketer, captained the Sri Lanka Under-19 team in 2002, making his debut in 2000 before retiring from all forms of cricket in 2004. As a fast bowler with batting skills, he played alongside future Sri Lankan stars like Angelo Mathews, Upul Tharanga, and Farveez Maharoof at the Under-19 level, representing Chilaw Marians CC and Galle CC in the first-class circuit.

He is survived by his wife and two children. His sudden death has deeply affected the cricketing community, with tributes pouring in from former teammates and fans.

The investigation into Niroshana’s death is ongoing, with police focusing on determining the motive behind the shooting. Sri Lankan cricket authorities have offered their condolences to the family and are calling for swift justice.
