Ex-Selector Bilal Afzal Appointed PCB Chairman’s Advisor

Former selector Bilal Afzal has been appointed as an advisor to the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Alongside his advisory position, he will serve as a non-voting member of both the senior and junior selection committees.

This appointment follows recent changes in the PCB’s selection committees, triggered by the dismissals of Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz due to poor performance in the T20 World Cup, resulting in a streamlined selection team.

The new selection committee consists of Muhammad Yousuf, Asad Shafiq, the team captain, and the head coach, responsible for selecting both senior and junior teams. The PCB’s website has been updated to reflect these changes, now listing four voting and five non-voting members.

Voting members include the team captain, head coach, and former Test cricketers Muhammad Yousuf and Asad Shafiq, while non-voting members consist of assistant coach Azhar Mahmood, Bilal Afzal, manager analyst Hassan Cheema, Director High Performance Nadeem Khan, and Director International Usman Wahla.

The women’s selection committee will include Asad Shafiq, Batool Fatima, the team captain, and the coach, with their first task being to select players for the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh.

The PCB’s restructuring aims to improve the selection process by integrating experienced cricketers and analysts, creating a strong framework for team selection at both levels.
