The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially appointed former opener Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach of the Indian team. Gambhir, who previously led the Kolkata Knight Riders to victory in the Indian Premier League (IPL), will receive an annual salary of INR 100 to 120 million, according to Indian media.
The BCCI had specified that the new coach’s salary would depend on their experience. Although the board has not released official details about Gambhir’s salary, reports indicate he will earn INR 10 million monthly and INR 100 to 120 million annually. Gambhir will replace Rahul Dravid, continuing the team’s success following their recent World Cup win.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah expressed confidence in Gambhir’s leadership, welcoming him as the head coach and expecting the Indian team to reach new heights under his guidance.
Gambhir, who scored over 10,000 international runs in a 13-year career since his ODI debut in 2003, is one of four cricketers, including Don Bradman, Jacques Kallis, and Mohammad Yousuf, to have scored centuries in five consecutive Test matches.
Having closely observed the rapid evolution of modern-day cricket, Gambhir’s vast experience makes him well-suited for this role. After retiring from playing, he transitioned to commentary and politics, becoming a lawmaker for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
