Rohit Sharma Becomes the Second Indian to Reach 12,000 T20 Runs in IPL 2025

Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, became the second Indian cricketer to score 12,000 runs in T20 cricket, achieving this feat during Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2025 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday. Needing just 12 runs to reach the milestone, he accomplished it in his 466th T20 match by scoring a brilliant 70 off 46 balls.

Rohit now joins Virat Kohli as the only two Indian players to surpass the 12,000-run mark in T20 cricket. The 36-year-old opener, with an average of 30.81 in the format and eight centuries to his name, is the eighth player globally to reach this landmark and the fifth fastest in terms of innings played.

The fastest to 12,000 T20 runs is Chris Gayle (345 innings), followed by Kohli (360 innings), David Warner (368 innings), Alex Hales (432 innings), and Rohit Sharma (466 innings).

Rohit’s achievement comes alongside a resurgence in form in IPL 2025. After a slow start, he scored 76 off 45 balls against Chennai Super Kings and then followed it up with a half-century against Sunrisers Hyderabad, marking his first consecutive fifties in the IPL in nine years.

Additionally, he surpassed Kieron Pollard’s record for most sixes hit for Mumbai Indians in IPL history.

Mumbai Indians triumphed over Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 wickets, securing the third spot in the IPL standings.
