Pakistan’s Test captain Shan Masood has outlined the team’s strategy for the upcoming first Test against Bangladesh, starting on August 21 in Rawalpindi. The squad has chosen to deploy a four-man pace attack, based on the anticipated conditions at the venue.
In a pre-match press conference, Shan explained that Rawalpindi’s conditions traditionally benefit seamers and batters, with spin playing a minor role. He highlighted that domestic cricket in Rawalpindi has consistently favored pace bowlers, prompting the team to adopt a similar approach rather than introducing unfamiliar strategies.

Regarding the selection of Mohammad Ali over Mir Hamza, Shan clarified that the decision was based on the specific roles required. He noted that Mohammad Ali’s ability to support Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah, who are expected to take the new ball, was a key factor. Ali’s hard-hitting pace and seam movement were seen as ideal for the conditions.
Pakistan’s playing XI for the Test includes: Shan Masood (captain), Saud Shakeel (vice-captain), Abdullah Shafique, Babar Azam, Khurram Shehzad, Mohammad Ali, Mohammad Rizwan (wicketkeeper), Naseem Shah, Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, and Shaheen Shah Afridi.
